Fifty years ago, the best advice given to parents of “special” babies was “Do not take this baby home. Send it to an institution, and get on with your life.” Sadly, some new parents are still being told the same thing.

The Arc is by and for those who want more for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Progress has been made; however, more is still needed.

The Arc is on the frontlines providing services and advocacy, so even the most vulnerable can live fully and participate in their communities as contributing citizens. Illinois’ fiscal crisis makes fundraising dollars essential to keep the doors open.
